Dismissed and it doesn't feel right?. The law of England and Wales, in plain English.

The law, in plain English

With two years' service, dismissal must be for a fair reason and follow a fair process. Some dismissals are automatically unfair whatever your length of service, including those connected to whistleblowing, pregnancy or asserting statutory rights, and discrimination claims need no minimum service at all. The tribunal clock runs fast: three months less one day, with ACAS early conciliation required first.

How it usually goes

  1. Ask for the reason in writing and keep every document from the process.
  2. Start ACAS early conciliation before the deadline: it is free and pauses time.
  3. Settlement is common; if not, the tribunal decides fairness and compensation.

What it costs

Case review at a fixed price · settlement agreement review £220 plus VAT (illustrative).
